Evaluation Question 7

Evaluation Question 7
Progression

At the beginning of the project there were many things that I did not know. The main problem I had was I could not use Photoshop or In Design. This was because I had never come across the programmes before therefore I did not know how to work them. Now I can use the software professionally to produce my work.

I have also picked up skills throughout the project.
The most important skill I have picked up is that I now know that a readership profile is a very important source when it comes to making a magazine. It gives you all the right information to include which makes sure your magazine has the correct factors to fit in with a specific target audience.

I have learnt techniques such as including conventions in my magazine to make it successful. By including relevant pictures using props and using bold writing can do this.
Doing research on media institutions is also a very important factor to find out about magazine sales and which companies are the best.

Overall from looking at my preliminary task to my final piece I can strongly say there is a massive improvement. My preliminary task is dull and all one colour which makes it very unappealing to a reader. Also there is not much information on my front cover which has resulted in allot of dead space. My final piece looks more professional as I have researched into magazines more, and I now know what looks more appealing. Learning how to use the software correctly has also been a big improvement on my work as it has made it easier for me to control it and I can use harder tools that I did not use before.

Evaluation Question 5

QUESTION 2
How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Describe what your choice of photos tells us about the audience you are creating your magazine for. What techniques did you use and why? For what effect?
The audience I used for my magazine was teenagers/adults. My photos represent this as I used a young teenage girl on my front cover. Also throughout the rest of my photos I used there are teenagers used. Also I used props in my photo shoots for my magazine. This shows the target audience that the magazine is music based. I had to link the props to the music genre.

Do the same for your choice of language. What did you write about? What would your audience be most interested in?
I used informal language in some cases throughout my magazine. I used this to attract the audience which is teenagers. To find out what I had to write about, I used a questionnaire to find out information on what my target audience would be interested in. My readership profile shows what my audience was most interested in.

Describe the overall image (how they want to look) and lifestyle (how they want to be) of your audience and how you put this across in your magazine
The overall image for the audience of my magazine is teenagers that are interested in music and festivals. The ways I put this across in my magazine was including vital images and information that would attract the correct target audience. For example my target audience was interested in festivals. I found this out from carrying out my questionnaire therefore I thought it was a vital point to include in my magazine.

What sort of things would you see most often in the magazine, what would you also occasionally see and what would you never see?
In my magazine the most common thing to see would be information on concerts and festivals. Occasionally the audience would see information on music awards shown on TV with write ups in the magazine. The audience would never see music that is from the ‘classical’ genre. This is because my questionnaire shows that the most common genre was ‘rock’ and ‘classical’ was the least common.
